Looking on the Bright Side (at least, but..)

Looking on the Bright Side
Today, we will cover what you can say when someone is unhappy, in order to cheer them up. As you’ll see, there are many simple expressions you can use to respond to complaints and point out the bright side of the situation.

Examples
At least...
My coworker, Jack, always disrupts our meetings by talking on his phone. I have to ask him every time to be quiet. At least he listens to you when you tell him to be quiet.

But...
My boss keeps calling me on the weekend to ask me about work related questions.
Yes, but at least he cares about your opinion. My boss never listens to me and does anything he wants.

But when you think about it...
The meeting with the client was wonderful, but I don’t think they are being honest with us. Yes, but when you think about it, on the first meeting, companies are always careful with information until they’re more familiar with each other.

On the other hand...
I’m very happy. I got a new job at a company near my home. However, there’s one problem. I’m the only one who can’t speak Korean well. That’s rough –on the other hand, you get a chance to use Korean more and improve.

Don’t forget...
I hate having to ask my boss for a promotion. Well, don’t forget, he’s always in a good mood in the morning, so ask him early.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED?
Use what you just learned to respond to these sentences.

1. I love my new job, but the long hours are really difficult to handle.
2. We are launching a new product at the car show tomorrow but we aren’t prepared for the show at all.
3. Tomorrow, we will be meeting some new German clients, but I have no idea how to speak German.
4. Our new CEO is very nice in public, but sometimes he can lose his temper during private meetings.
